Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Review)

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition brings three iconic games; GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas to the Nintendo Switch, but the experience is a mixed bag. On one hand, the nostalgia hits hard, and revisiting these open-world classics on a portable console feels surreal. The freedom to roam Liberty City or cruise through Vice City’s neon-lit streets on the go is undeniably fun, and the games retain much of their original charm and storytelling.

However, technical performance on the Switch holds the trilogy back. Frame rate drops, long load times, and muddy textures are noticeable, especially in handheld mode. While the graphical updates are present, they often feel inconsistent or underwhelming, with some character models looking worse than their early 2000s counterparts. Rockstar’s promise of a “Definitive Edition” feels like a stretch on this platform, with bugs and polish issues that distract from the experience.

Despite its flaws, the trilogy still offers incredible value for longtime fans and newcomers alike. Having three genre-defining titles in a single package on a portable console is a major win, even if it’s not the smoothest ride. For players willing to overlook technical hiccups, this edition delivers hours of classic GTA chaos and storytelling—just don’t expect it to be the definitive version on Switch.
