TikTok Gets a Lifeline: U.S. Extends Sale Deadline by 75 Days

TikTok has been granted a 75-day extension by the Trump administration to finalize a sale of its U.S. operations, delaying a potential nationwide ban until mid-June. The move follows the Supreme Court’s rejection of ByteDance’s appeal against the “divest-or-ban” legislation passed earlier this year. Originally set to expire April 5th, the deadline has been pushed back by Executive Order, with Trump saying the deal is making “tremendous progress” but still needs time to secure all necessary approvals.

The extension keeps the bidding war alive, with major names like MrBeast, Perplexity AI, Oracle, Amazon, and AppLovin reportedly in the running. For the gaming industry, the stakes are high—TikTok has become a critical channel for mobile game discovery and user acquisition, especially among Gen Z players. “It’s not just another ad platform—it’s where culture and gameplay collide,” said NextBeat’s Ryan Davies. If TikTok disappears from the U.S., game studios may struggle to replace its unique reach and engagement.
