1up is reporting that Bethesda has revealed the official release dates for Fallout 3: October 28 in North America, and October 31 for Europe.

"We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise," Bethesda President Vlatko Andonov said about the release. "To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year."

As the successor to one of PC gaming's most legendary franchises, the game should be one of the most popular of the year, and it had a strong showing at this year's E3 event, where it won "Best RPG" awards from various gaming outlets. It'll be available for PC, 360, and PS3.

New PSP Model In The WorksPosted 11:52am Thu Aug 14, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: PSP, Sony

Rumors of a new PSP model have been floating around for a few months now, but you can finally place them in the "Confirmed" column, as the folks at Gizmodo have uncovered the FCC filing for the "PSP-3001."

The documents show that the redesign is largely focused on the internal components, meaning that Sony is probably trying to reduce the cost and make the system more resilient to hacking instead of improving the aesthetics. If you're a homebrewer, you might want to wait to see how hackable the new system will be before you switch over.

EA Releases New Madden 09 CoverPosted 11:58am Tue Aug 12, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Madden 09, EA

If you're upset that your new copy of Madden 09 doesn't depict Brett Favre in all his glory as a New York Jet now that Green Bay has freed themselves of him, then don't worry - EA's got your back. Over at their website you can download and print a cover with Favre as a Jet, but only if you bought the 360, PS3, PS2, or PSP versions of the game.

EA's also offering an automatic download for the 360, original Xbox, PS3, PS2, and Wii versions that will put Favre at the starting QB position for the Jets. They also noted that those playing offline can use the Franchise Mode to place Favre in the free agent pool and then sign him to any NFL team you want.

Super Monkey Ball On iPhone Sells 300kPosted 10:32pm Mon Aug 11, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: iPhone, Apple, Super Monkey Ball

It has been just a month since the launch of the iPhone's new App Store gave people yet another new version of Super Monkey Ball, but sales for the game are already flowing in, as it has sold 300k units, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This is big news for proponents of game development on the iPhone, who have argued that the system is capable of competing with the DS and PSP for market share of the handheld gaming industry.

"That's a substantial business. It gives iPhone a justifiable claim to being a viable gaming platform," said Simon Jeffery, president of Sega of America. Sega grossed nearly three million dollars from the game by selling it for $9.99.

Keep your eyes open for news on the performance of other iPhone games, as their success (or failure) will have an interesting impact on whether or not the iPhone will truly emerge as a third viable handheld.

Bioware Considering Mass Effect DSPosted 10:07pm Mon Aug 11, 2008 by Zach Lott Tags: Bioware, Mass Effect, Nintendo DS

Are you interested in a DS version of Mass Effect? So is Bioware, as Miles Holmes, lead designer for Sonic Chronicles, has spoken to Eurogamer about the possibility of new iterations of several of Bioware's key IPs hitting the DS, stating that the company is interested in "basically anything that reinforces the franchises."

Holmes also said that Bioware has "a lot of big plans for Mass Effect" and that "a DS version would be an awesome way to keep interest alive." He also pointed out that Bioware's handheld division's current role is to reinforce major title releases and that they plan to have the capacity to work on three projects at once in the future. That should lead to plenty of interesting announcements once Bioware decides what they want to work on.
