Amazon Launches Casual Games Download ServicePosted 12:55pm Tue Feb 03, 2009 by Zach Lott Tags: Amazon.com, PC, Casual Games, Download

Amazon.com has launched a digital distribution service for casual games, according to Shacknews.

There are over 500 titles available for download at the new "Game Downloads" section of the site, all priced in the $6.99 to $9.99 range. Also, for a limited time, Jewel Quest II, Build-a-lot, and The Scruffs, are being offered for free. There are also plans to expand the selection past casual games at some point.

"We always want to offer the widest selection possible, just like we've done with our boxed games over the past two years," Amazon VP of video games and software Greg Hart told Kotaku.

Each game will have a trial version and will be acquirable through the Amazon Games & Software Downloader, a small 3MB download. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment Now Available...AgainPosted 2:07pm Thu Nov 13, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, reprint, Persona 4, Atlus, Amazon

In celebration of Persona 4's ever-nearing release date, Atlus has reprinted limited copies of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in the original PlayStation format; rest assured that it will also play on your PlayStation 3 (or so I'm told). You can only pick up this gem at Amazon.

The cost is a bargain at $39.99, which should qualify you for free shipping if you're on a holiday budget (which should be all of you given the current state of our market economy). This may also be a good time to spend those $10 gift cards that Amazon has been giving out with preorder deals lately.

I would like to take this moment to laugh at everyone selling their copy on ebay at outrageous prices--this is $300 you will not be getting.

Time Crisis 4 Price Drop At AmazonPosted 9:55pm Mon Dec 17, 2007 by Tim Grube Tags: , PlayStation 3, Time Crisis 4, sales, discount, amazon

I think Amazon is on a roll here this holiday season by price dropping a bunch of their items. Could I say, "hot" items. Last week, the online company dropped Call of Duty 4 to $40 while the MSRP was still standing at $59.99. Now, this week Time Crisis 4 with the Guncon 3 Controller has been dropped to a whopping $49.99 which also has free shipping for the PlayStation 3. The title released on November 20 and carried an MSRP of $89.99.

The numbers haven't been released yet out of Namco whether or not Time Crisis 4 is selling, but I would totally pick this up being so low. Last minute holiday shoppers? I do believe you are one of them!

Merry... Holiday, Call Of Duty 4 Only $40 at AmazonPosted 12:51pm Fri Dec 14, 2007 by Aaron Dunlap Tags: Call of Duty 4, sales, discount, amazon

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the year's best games (earning a total of 10 stars on our 5-star scale). Amazon has the game on sale for $40 versus the usual $60 price tag. This applies to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. I don't know why I should need to say anything else.

If you haven't picked the game up yet, perhaps this sale should be motivation. Hey, there's still time for shipping before Christma...Holiday!

Amazon, PC Gamer Quick To Capitalize On FiringPosted 6:30pm Sun Dec 02, 2007 by Aaron Dunlap Tags: jeff gerstmann, amazon, pc gamer, moneygrubbing

Do a Google search for Jeff Gerstmann and you might be troubled by the automatic advertisement that appears on the right-hand side.

They Fired Jeff?
Get reviews from PC Gamer instead.

The link goes to an Amazon.com page at which you can subscribe to PC Gamer. It's a little funny, but I think it's slightly more pathetic. Someone lost their job. The entire game review industry is under suspicion. They want to sell magazines?

UPDATE: Using our own Google Adwords account, we sent a message to Amazon. See below:

The Amazon ad was removed soon afterwards.

Xbox 360 Dealseekers Destroy Amazon.comPosted 5:52pm Fri Nov 24, 2006 by Aaron Dunlap Tags: Xbox 360, amazon.com

While all of the naturally occurring hype on earth seems to be hovering around the PS3 and Wii, the Xbox 360 is still making an impact somewhere.

On Thursday (Thanksgiving), Amazon.com was offering the core version of the Xbox 360 (the $300 "retard" version) for $100. When Amazon finally began the sale, customers hit the site so hard they brought the mega-retailer to its knees.

Amazon reportedly "didn't expect" the demand to be that high, just like they didn't expect demand for the Wii to be so high that they'd sell out in under 60 seconds.

Someone at Amazon needs to get with it and realize how crazy gamers are. They already pissed off half the world with their poor handling of the Wii launch; it shouldn't take a college graduate to figure out that selling a hot game system for $200 lower than everybody else is going to bring down a holy hellstorm of buyers.
