Some Hands On Reports of Skype Running on PSPPosted 6:36pm Tue Jan 08, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: CES 2008, sony, PSP, Skype

In more Skype on the PSP news, Engadget had a chance to test it out on the show floor at CES 2008 and reports that the audio quality is "pretty decent - certainly comparable to what we experience when using Skype either on a PC or on the receiving end of one."

There is a tiny lag issue in the audio transmission, though, but Engadget claims it's less than a second and that the overall interface is "super simple... [you] just select the Skype icon and you can see your buddy list of who's online; select someone to ring them up."

Sony Finally to Release PSP Keyboard... in 2009Posted 3:57pm Tue Jan 08, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: psp, sony, accessories, keyboard, CES 2008
Just in case you missed it, reports are surfacing that Sony is indeed working on a keyboard for the PSP and that the accessory will be available sometime in 2009.

There's no word on what sort of design Sony is looking at, but the company admits to "looking at several" of them, but refuses to give specifics. At least we won't have to suffer for too much longer.

PSP Not the Only Sony Device to Score Skype...Posted 9:17pm Mon Jan 07, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: skype, sony, mylo 2, psp, CES 2008

The PlayStation Portable isn't the only device getting Skype (Internet phone) access from Sony, as a quick check on Sony's CES 2008 blog reveals that its Mylo 2 (looks familiar, doesn't it?) will also utilize Skype for free.

So if you're crazy about Skype, own a "phat" PSP, and don't want to upgrade to the newer model of the same thing, a Mylo 2 might be an option. The Mylo 2 contains features for instant messaging and Web access along with Skype.

Little Big Planet, Endless PossibilitiesPosted 5:30pm Mon Jan 07, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: CES 2008, Sony, Little Big Planet, PlayStation 3, video
On-hand at the Sony booth for CES 2008 is an interesting demonstration of LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3.

While it's entertaining and intriguing to watch the "level create" demo, what really caught our attention was the knowledge that players will not only be able to create their own levels but also share them online for other users to play through; it's also commented that a public beta is a possibility and that the game will make an appearance at this year's GDC.

Looks snazzy to me.

Panasonic Showcases 150-inch Plasma HDTV at CES 2008Posted 3:01pm Mon Jan 07, 2008 by Shiva Stella Tags: CES 2008, Panasonic, HDTV, PDP
Give to me now.

Simply because the staff can't help but giggle like small school-children when they glimpse this tv, here's some interesting CES 2008 news straight from Panasonic. The company showcased its 150-inch ultra-large screen plasma HDTV during its keynote, and my-oh-my the mind does wonder at its possibilities for providing stellar gaming.

The company claims that its technological advancements in the realm of PDPs (plasma display panels) will allow for "thinner profiles, larger screens, brighter images, higher definition and lower power consumption."

The 150-inch godly HDTV features "overwhelming image quality with an 8.84 million pixel resolution (2,160 x 4,096) - more than four times the 1080p HD specification (1,080 x 1,920)" and "provides stable and uniform images across the vast expanse of the screen... Featuring true-to-life color reproduction capability and quick response to moving images, the ultra-large PDP renders clear, crisp, spectacular images unrivaled by any other."

I want this tv.

More images at the jump.

CES 2008: Microsoft Keynote Xbox 360 AnnouncementsPosted 9:30pm Sun Jan 06, 2008 by Tim Grube Tags: Xbox 360, Microsoft, CES 2008

During the CES Microsoft Keynote in Las Vegas just now, Microsoft unveiled that Xbox Live has reached the 10 million member mark and is continually growing. More people are using the console as an entertainment device as a "whole" rather then just a gaming device.

To go along with the announcement, ABC and Disney will be bringing video content to the Xbox Live Marketplace later this month. That includes your oh-so-favorite Hannah Montana shows, High School Musical, Lost, Desperate Housewives, and much more. MGM will also be jumping on-board, providing film content.

"Xbox Live will provide twice as much on-demand content than any cable or sat provider," according to Microsoft.

Look for more on CES 2008 this week as it starts up tomorrow.

CES 07: Xbox 360 Upgrade?Posted 11:30am Sun Jan 07, 2007 by Tim Grube Tags: Xbox 360, ces
It was only a matter of time until Microsoft decided to re-release a new version of the Xbox 360 with updated features and this time it appears Bill Gates will be announcing at this years CES, a newer version with HDMI and other various features. The lads over at Engadget scored some information prior to the show revealing all new board changes which could also include an upgrade of the consoles hard drive.

IPTV is also said to be integrated into the console. It would be very easy to add this since the unit runs Windows XP/NT. Who would use it? We shall find out this and many more additions very soon.
