Another year, another pile of games.
Some of them good, most of them not. The end of the year is a time for reflecting, so let us now reflect upon the highlights in gaming for 2007. We've broken our Game of the Year awards into a week-long celebration of gaming quality, with each category being featured on each day.
Category Definitions
A Shooter is a game played in the first-person perspective where the primary focus is using weapons against enemies.
An Action Game is any game where the primary focus is using weapons against enemies but is either not in first person perspective or not primarily concerned with firearms.
An Adventure Game is defined as one where the focus is on exploration, collecting objects, and solving puzzles. Weapons and combat may be present but not the major focus.
RPG and Strategy genres are pretty self-defining. RPGs put the focus on upgrading your character(s)'s skills, attributes, and inventory. Strategy games allow control of a large army from one interface.
In the above categories, only major console and PC titles are considered.
Games for any handheld system are contained in a single Portable Game category.
Our overall Game of the Year is judged not only on quality but on innovation. All games from all genres across all systems are considered and weighed by how they have pushed the industry forward.
