Here's some good news to start the afternoon off with if you're an Atlus fan, as the company has officially confirmed that its Persona 3 FES is indeed coming to North America and will include both the regular and bonus content for the very happy price of $29.99. For those of you only mildly familiar with the Persona games, they're the ones with demons.

Here's the email confirmation Atlus sent out to its "faithful" this morning:

Ok, we give up. The rumors were true.

Persona 3 FES is coming to North America!

Months of trying to keep FES a secret are now behind us (which means all of us here can reflect on just how futile an effort that was).

So what's the big deal about Persona 3 FES? "FES" is short for "Festival," and in Japan, FES was released as a reward for gamers who picked up the original. Not only does the new FES content enhance the original game, but the new FES component is actually a game in and of itself, accessible right from the get-go. We think of it as two games on one disc. It is the definitive Persona 3 experience.

We will be releasing the stand-alone version of FES. There was of course the option of just releasing the "Append" disc (which would have required ownership of the original game), but in the end, we didn't want you to have to own anything else to enjoy the experience.

We'll have a ton more updates going out for FES soon, telling you about the extra features, content, and modes for you to enjoy. Thanks for being patient. We're glad you stuck around.

Oh, and we decided to set the suggested retail for FES at $29.99, just for the heck of it. Thanks for continuing to support us, Atlus Faithful!

Look for the game on April 22 (take that, evil ebay prices!) You can check out the Persona 3 FES website here, if you're curious, and of course you can view the fresh teaser trailer below.

Demos mean the game is close enough to completion to be able to cut a chunk of it out without screwing anything up, and it means that there's at least some small parcel of the story that Kojima can't stay tight-lipped about.

Will the MGS4 demo sell PlayStation 3s, though, that's the question.

Demo Impressions: Burnout Paradise

Today was the day that the Burnout Paradise demo hit the Playsation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace. With many hopes for the second next-gen Burnout game in the series, many users rushed to download and try the game. Criterion Games has been releasing information out to the public slowly piece by piece with the previous release of a gameplay trailer, a map of the track available on the demo, and many screenshots. We slowly found out that Paradise City was going to be an open world that the players would be able to roam around then heard about other features such as new tracks, cars, etc. With the release of the demo, all the hype behind the new content in the game has been done just right. Read more after the break.

The graphics are amazing and truly do shine. The cars look great, the city looks beautiful, and you can easily distinguish between objects. The car crashing physics have been improved as well. When you drive directly into a wall, you can see the front part of your car being crushed whereas the back isn't affected as much unlike in Burnout Revenge where the car would just explode. The car handling is very responsive and although there is an arcade-style touch to it, you shouldn't expect any less from an arcade-style racer.

One of the things that was being questioned was the online play. With a jump to an open world, many people were wondering how the online play would turn out. Criterion Games has handled this very smoothely. Its very easy to get online by just using the d-pad menu's to get you online. You automatically get put into a free roam world with other players where you compete for game goals, such as "Best Drift", "Highest Jump", "Longest Distance on a Jump", etc. If you want to race with anyone, you go up to the correct part of the map, and you hit the correct combination of buttons to get a race started. Countless hours of fun should be had online.

Overall, Burnout Paradise should be a game to look forward to. The demo was short, but it is a demo afterall, so you can't expect much. For those of you who haven't checked it out yet, head over to the Playstation Network or the Xbox Live Marketplace and download the demo to give it a shot. Criterion Games has successfully moved the Burnout franchise to a next-gen style title utilizing more of the features from the newer systems.

Following the news awhile back from Sony that a LittleBigPlanet demo would be playable near the end of 2007, Stephen Totilo from MTV Multiplayer has stated that, in fact, it will not be coming this year after speaking with Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Quoted directly from the news story, the comment is as follows:

"I can officially confirm that there won't be a demo this year," Ron Eagle, senior manager of PR for Sony Computer Entertainment America told me. But he did say he's played 30 of the games 50 planned developer-made levels and that it's a lot of fun. He seemed genuinely pleased about his time with the game, but his company won't be showing more "LBP" at least until next month. Eagle could only add that the full game is set for a 2008 release.

They have recently announced that the game's exact release date will be on January 22nd. The new game boasts a free roaming world with better graphics than ever. It has new modes, new cars, and new tracks but will that be enough to offer a new interest in the series?

This Thursday (December 13th), the Burnout Paradise demo will hit the Playstation Network, Playstation Store, and the Xbox Live Marketplace. This demo will allow you to explore 3 neighborhoods that are a part of Paradise City, play in 3 events (one of which include the new mode Stunt Run), and go head to head against your friends. The developers have recently posted a glance of a new demo map that will be available for play this Thursday. Just a little longer before you can start revving your engines and hit the Paradise City streets.

Nintendo has launched a new Wii channel called "Minna no Nintendo" (known as Everybody's Nintendo Channel) in Japan that allows gamers to download Wii trailers and DS demos.

According to CVG, the demos are transferable via Wi-Fi connection but is playable so long as the Wii is left on and running before the demo is erased from the DS's stored memory.

There has been no word yet of a North American release. For now, we'll have to wait while others get to try it first. Patience is a virtue, right?

GH Review: Crusty Demons (PS2)

This review was originally published on Gaming Horizon, GameBump's predecessor. Its format does not match our own but we support its content. It was written by Eric Dayday.

When I was first handed Crusty Demons for review, my first
words were “what in blazes is this” (edited because my original words are a
little too hot to be written here). Then I popped it into my Xbox, checked out
the intro and realized that I actually knew the guys on the screen – Twitch
Stenberg, Ronnie Faisst, and “Cowboy” Kenny Bartram of X Games fame. Then I
realized that CD played like recent Tony Hawk titles, except with dirt bikes
instead of skateboards. It was there that I realized this game had potential.
After that is another story.

Crusty Demons starts off with the crew dying after
performing some insane stunt. However, the prince of darkness himself steps in
and offers the Demons a deal. He’ll resurrect them and offer them immortality
in exchange for their services. Needless to say, they take the deal, and also
needless to say, there’s a catch. They are indeed immortal, but he said nothing
about feeling pain, so every crash will still feel very painful.

After the success of the Tony Hawk series, many extreme
sports games have emulated its style of gameplay. Crusty Demons is no
different. Take Tony Hawk’s UnderGround, replace all of the skaters with the
Demon crew and other fictional characters, change their modes of transportation
and trickeration from skateboards to dirt bikes, and you have Crusty Demons. Both
riders and bikes have their own stat ratings, so be sure to keep that in mind
when selecting who and what machine to ride.

Levels are set up as sandboxes, letting you go where ever,
and goals/missions are initiated by talking to a local NPC. There’s a good
variety of missions too, ranging from checkpoint races to destroying buildings
to using your rider as a projectile. Yes, the ragdoll type minigames from the
Flatout series have made their way here as some missions, and the animations of
the flying bodies and their subsequent crashes are hilarious. It’s too bad
though that it’s the same animation over and over again, so once you’ve seen it
the first time, it’s no different the countless other times. Sad considering it
pervades quite a bit of the mission gameplay. The largest obstacle in each
level is the three-tiered stunt contest. You’ll need to impress some of the
NPCs with high scores, which are easy to obtain if you can link tricks together
to combo points. This is mostly done through the use of wheelies, the bike
equivalent of a manual for those of you more familiar with the skater jargon.

Outside of that story mode is another one called devil’s
rush. It’s a different name, but it still borrows a bit from Tony Hawk. In
devil’s rush, you’re given a time limit to complete as many goals as you can
before the timer runs out. It’s the same as Birdman’s classic modes. Crusty
Demons also features free ride which lets you explore the levels at your own
leisure and split-screen multiplayer so you can wreak havoc with up to three of
your friends.

Many games have emulated the Hawk series, but few have
pulled it off successfully. Crusty Demons falls in the latter. It can be fun
for a little while, but it slowly becomes frustrating as some of the goals
become progressively difficult to achieve. Most of the time, it’s because of
the horrible control scheme, specifically for ground tricks, but sometimes the
goal itself is just insane. In particular are the ones where you need to launch
and aim your rider at a target. The target window for some of them are so
small, you’ll wonder anyone could possibly to do it. And remember I mentioned
that there’s only one launch animation, so you’ll see and hear the same flight
repeated during each attempt. Frustrating and annoying – two words gamers love
to hear.

Ground tricks aren’t even worth using. Performing them
involves contorting your fingers in the oddest of ways. Luckily, you can get
through the entire game without having to bother with them at all.

Heck, sometimes finding the goals themselves is a challenge
in itself because the supplied minimap is anything but helpful. Now that is
frustrating especially when trying to complete a timed challenge and have no
clue where to go next. And some portions of a few stages can only be accessed
through one entry point, and if you can’t find it, then you’re straight out of
luck.

Graphically, the game isn’t that bad looking. The riders and
bikes are decently modeled and the animations are smooth thanks to a frame rate
that doesn’t drop. The problems lie in the loads of clipping and some really
bad camera bugs.

Speaking of bugs, the audio has some problems as well. CD
supports custom soundtracks, which is good for those of you who don’t like the
smattering of rock CD features. However, when selecting what songs to use,
sometimes when you highlight a song, a different song plays in the preview.
When this happened to me, I started to let the song preview dictate what songs
I selected. Then, when I actually got into the game, the songs that were
selected were actually the ones that were highlighted. It’s not a game breaking
bug, but like the rest of the game, it’s kind of annoying to have to learn of
it that way. But, if you’re, at least you were warned. Oh and while we’re on
the subject of the sound, I’d just like to point out that the voice acting in
downright horrible. That’s all that needs to be said about that.

The game’s wacky premise and borrowing elements from a
critically acclaimed series gave Crusty Demons the potential to be a decent
sleeper title. But, potential is nothing if you can’t do anything with it.
Crusty Demons should be left collecting dust in a bargain bin near you.

Frustrating controls leave much to be desired.

Not too bad, but suffers from a lot of clipping and a buggy camera.

Odd custom soundtrack glitch; laughable voice acting.

So much potential wasted. Maybe next time – if there is a next time.

Plenty of riders and bikes to use; multiple difficulty levels.
