Call of Duty fans probably woke this morning a bit more ecstatic than usual, as today (or tomorrow - I guess it depends on whether you believe Activision or game sites and retailers) is the long-awaited launch day for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The collector's editions are also shipping today.

A few reviews are trickling in (the current average is 95%, but hey - there are only two of them at the moment) so we'll keep our eyes on scores as they go up. For fresh videos and screenshots you can head over to the GameSpot launch center. The title's official site has also been updated with new videos, all dated from November 2. For now, take a peek at the latest footage at the jump.
The following trailer is actually a making-of video for COD4.

Games and movies always street on Tuesdays. They often list "release" dates as the preceding Monday because that's when the inventory is let go from warehouses.

Activision sends the game to Target/GameStop/Whatever on Monday, they get it and sell it on Tuesday.

If a published release date is a Monday and not a Tuesday, it won't be available until the Tuesday unless you can find a store that both has it in and doesn't care about no stinkin' street dates.

I got my Nintendo 64 from Funcoland around 2 weeks before the official release date. This was before console releases were the giant consumer orgies they are now.

A friend said he picked it up from a gamestop in maryland, so there's bound to be places if you call around.

I figured something was screwy when Activision didn't send over its "look at us - we have a new game!" email. I suspect someone will be covering that story tomorrow...
